QigongQigong is a type of Chinese medical exercise that can be described as “moving meditation.” It is designed to improve strength and flexibility as well as to cultivate qi, the vital energy of life.
The type of qigong that we practice together was taught to Mary by Master Zheng Hong Chen, who used qigong to heal himself after accidentally stepping off a bridge while making a film in China. His spine was broken in seven places, his shoulder was severely injured, and he had a pre-existing heart condition. To see him, one would never have guessed these injuries. Such is the power of a consistent qigong practice. The particular set of qigong exercises that we do is the form that was taught in the early days of the Medicineless Hospital, founded by Dr. Pang Ming, who is fully trained in Western Medicine, Chinese Traditional Medicine (acupuncture, herbs, nutrition, exercise, tui na, and moxibustion), and many traditions of qigong. When Dr. Pang realized that qigong is the most powerful of all the types of medicine he practiced, he stopped doing the other forms of medicine and focused solely on qigong. He tested the methods of qigong that he employed at the Medicineless Hospital, documenting exceptionally high rates of improvement and cure, as measured by his patients’ Western Medicine doctors before and after being at the Hospital. |
Our Qigong
The qigong we do is in four parts:
1. Standing Meditation
2. Qi Preparation and Collection
3. The Eight Pieces of Brocade
4. The Ten Steps
Written instructions for doing the exercises can be downloaded here. Standing Meditation and Qi Preparation and Collection are combined into a single document. The Eight Pieces of Brocade is a classical piece taken from Stephen Chang’s book, The Internal Exercises. The Ten Steps is also called Body-Mind practice, or Bio-netic Qi Gong (Shing Shun Juong).
